Sunbury and Shepperton Arts Festival
The SSAA Festival, first staged in 1968, has evolved into an annual 10-day event, providing a forum for selected artists, largely from the local community, to perform at a variety of local venues. Grants and sponsorship are secured from official bodies, community organisations and businesses to back the Festival, and all events in the festival are managed by volunteers. The Committee continues to welcome support from community and arts organisations and from local businesses. The 2012 Festival will take place between Friday 6 July and Sunday 15 July 2012. Further details will be announced in due course.

Festival 2011
Reviews of the 2011 festival, which was an outstanding success, can be found on the Reviews page.

Shepperton Players: ‘A Voyage Round My Father’, by John Mortimer

Shepperton Players present a warm, affectionate portrait of a son’s relationship with his father.  Growing up in the shadow of a brilliant barrister – whose blindness is never mentioned – John Mortimer yearns continually for his father’s love. But the father is passionate only about his garden and his hatred of visitors. The son survives his boarding school years by creating stories. Then when, as a young man, he meets Elizabeth, a note of reality is introduced into his life – one which challenges the silence of his family...

By River and Canal: An exhibition of photographs of Sunbury and Venice by Vic Kettle

An exhibition loosely based on the fact that the two areas, so different and so far apart, are both defined by water. Each has a water festival; both have a unique vitality and a natural beauty; and both attract artistic endeavour. Vic Kettle cannot be in either place without being inspired to capture the atmosphere: see for yourself in this captivating display of stunning photographs which will be available to purchase (collection at the end of the exhibition).

Portraits in Song: Edith Piaf & Bertolt Brecht with Elizabeth Mansfield, accompanied by Stephen Rose (piano)

Elizabeth Mansfield’s gripping portraits of Edith Piaf and Bertolt Brecht bring them both vividly to life, in a full, dramatic evening, interwoven with marvellous song. About as far apart as you can get, Piaf and Brecht, two great figures of European chanson and ballad, amazingly, connect by contrast. Piaf engages the heart; Brecht engages the mind. But his songs, like Piaf’s, are full of theatricality and drama. And, unexpectedly, through the single voice of the performer, two powerfully different world views emerge. ‘Mansfield delivers the famous songs superbly’ (The Guardian).
